Leestown Middle School Reviews

I attended Leestown Middle many years ago. Our family moved back to this area 6 months ago. In three weeks we will be leaving this school district, for one reason: Leestown Middle School. My child was an alert, polite kid with goals. Never have I had to fear for my childs safety while attending school. Grades are very bad. I have discussed with the Principle, Vice Principle, Teachers, and Dean of Students my concerns many times. There was no resolution.

This school is on the rise! There has been a lot of potential for this school for years now. It's true that it's been rocky, and we have had difficulty with consistancy and support... and by support, I mean to include and emphasize support from our community and the parents. It is difficult to move forward in school that has been subject to so much negative publicity - especially by those who fail to commit to personal involvement. Even the students feel a loss of ownership and lack of pride. The community needs to understand that Leestown needs it's support. Just remember things can only get better and change doesn't happen over night folks. Take a closer look, many good things are happening from the inside that are not visible from the outside. Test scores, appearance, and attitude take time. So allow for it and help out. THANK YOU!

My daughter attends Leestown now. She is in the 8th grade. I agree with the parents here that teachers are not what they used to be. I have witnessed the same thing and have even brought this to the attention of school officials, but no one seems to care because its not there kids going to school there. I have even met with the school board regarding my daughter and the education that I not only expect but demand, but no one seems to care. In the three years my daughter has been at Leestown, I have only spoken to 2 teachers and both have told me she is a great student and that was in passing. I have never been asked to sit down for a 1 on 1. I think most of the staff is there for paychecks not to teach the kids.

By far the worst school I have ever had to deal with. 'It needs help' is a huge understatement. Teachers yelling at students all day long, is totally unacceptable. When did yelling become an acceptable form of teaching? This is not something my child has told me about, this is something I have witnessed many times at this school. They want to blame the 'type' of students they have, who's supposed to be in control? Who's supposed to set the example of proper conduct? The teachers do not communicate with parents on anything except behavior, grades don't seem to matter to them. Your child can have an A and drop to an F in one grading period, and you won't hear from the teacher. They don't seem to care if your child passes or fails. I am currently looking for another school for my child to attend. A very concerned parent, C.N.

I attended Leestown Middle School right now and im a eighth grader. As i read reviews Leestown does need some work but that doesnt mean its a bad school. I've talked about it with many of my friends and parents. We dont know how the kids lifestyles are at home so they bring it to school...but we cant help that situation. As i tell many people i go there their always like Ohh bad school bad kids bad test scores and so on. But all i have to say is Leestown does need work but we have good expectations at that school that no one knows about! C.Owsley

I also attended Leestown about 7 years ago, this school has potential but needs alot of help and work...Its been through many rough years, and I think the educational department should work on improving this school.. i believe it often goes unseen by the city's department of eduation because it isn't the 'best' school out there... however i learned alot socially as well, the diverse group of students allowed me to branch out of my 'comfort zone' and broaden my horizons by relating with students of all races- which is a plus.
